Autumn is my favorite!
The best thing about autumn this year is that it’s Baby’s first autumn… so all of those fun seasonal things that make the fall so great — crisp air, falling leaves, pumpkin spice flavored everything, cozy comfy clothes, hay rides, treats, and everything else I love — I get to experience with the baby for the first time.
He’s still a little young to make memories, but I imagine these fun experiences are shaping his personality. Exploration is good for little ones so that they can start learning about the big wide world out there.
This weekend we visited a place in Middle Tennessee called Walden Farm, and we had so much fun! It is a wonderful place for families and I can’t wait to go back next year and make it an autumn tradition.
Being a new mom has been the most difficult, yet most rewarding thing I’ve ever endured. For the first two months after my son was born, I struggled with severe sleep deprivation, a healing body, newborn jaundice, breastfeeding, a family emergency, homesickness, and feeling like I was doing everything utterly wrong. I underestimated just how hard being a new parent was, and I don’t think anything could have prepared me — I just had to experience it to understand it. There were days I broke down and cried because I was so overwhelmed and felt I would never be myself again.
After two months, I started to notice a shift. I was still exhausted, but I had adapted to the sleep schedule. Everything regarding the baby began to feel like second nature…
…and I finally had the mental energy to do a photo shoot with my son! I really wish I had thought of it when he was a newborn, but my brain had been barely functioning. The only thing I could focus on for a while was taking care of the baby.
Better late than never!
